Design Objective
To educate and inform people on how to make more nutritious choices, through the distribution of recipes, an informational brochure, and a mobile application.
Project Brief
Identify a global social issue where design can provide an opportunity to impact the public’s awareness, and affect potential individual change. Using design to educate and inform, conceptualize a systematic, integrated approach to helping improve this social issue.
Approach
Through research and analysis of existing methodologies, I identified several pain points in the information systems in place. I found one of the largest opportunities to reach a national audience to be the grocery store and local doctors’ offices.
Outcome
By creating a system that includes an informational packet for practitioners’ offices, a companion mobile application, and a series of printed recipe cards that double as “nutrition tips” on the back sides of the recipe cards, this three-pronged approach offers information, education, and practical application. Note: for the recipe portion of this project, I wrote, cooked, and photographed my own creations.
Concept
What does FoodRoots mean?
The concept of FoodRoots is centered around making nutrition-conscious choices by paying closer attention to the origin of your food. Not only that your food is whole, unprocessed, and chemical-free, but that you have access to helpful tools easily available to aid in this effort.

Mobile App User Flow
The purpose of this mobile app is to offer users on-the-go information that helps with finding a recipe, grocery shopping, and learning about the foods that they’re interested in. With dozens of healthy recipes, easy to create shopping lists, and nutrition education, making healthier choices is at their fingertips.
Recipe Card Collection
The front of each recipe card is the recipe, and the reverse side is a healthy eating tip.
