Design Objective
To correlate a classic fairytale within the context of modern culture and create a viable applied environment outcome.
Project Brief
Identify and investigate three classic fairytales to analyze cultural, social, and/or value purpose that informed the fairytale. Then select one to creatively, innovatively, and and meaningfully relate to the cultural, economic, and social lives of a contemporary audience.
Approach
After evaluating three fairytales, I selected Little Red Riding Hood. Primary research produced an opportunity to connect younger teens with mentors. Through this connection, I decided that an app would be the most appropriate development for the project.
Outcome
MessageMe app is a mentoring app intended for teens and tweens aged 12-15 who may need guidance in their lives, but are too embarrassed (or don’t know who) to ask. The app pairs younger teens with older teen mentors aged 18-20. They have been hired, trained, and are supervised by licensed professionals in a typical workplace environment. To account for privacy and use of social media, the app is both anonymous and secure, allowing users to feel comfortable asking difficult questions. The only exception would be if someone aimed to harm themselves, mentors would escalate and notify managers.
